Valmiki community threatens agitation over pending recruitment

Jaipur: The Valmiki community in Rajasthan Friday warned of a state-wide agitation over the long-pending recruitment of sanitation workers and the delay in organisational elections. The Sayukt Valmiki Evam Safai Shramik Sangh has set an Aug 18 deadline for the govt to act, warning that workers across the state will go on strike if their demands are not met.Union president Nandkishore Dandoriya said that recruitment for more than 24,900 posts has been stalled for years. “The process has been pending since the Congress govt’s time. The BJP govt began it but halted it at the last moment. We demand that the rules be amended and a fresh notification issued without delay,” he said. Dandoriya added that filling these posts would not only provide employment to thousands of unemployed youths from the Valmiki community but also improve sanitation services across Rajasthan. Raising concern over the stalled organisational elections in Jaipur, he said, “The elections of Sayukt Valmiki Evam Safai Shramik Sangh have been on hold for a long time. The govt must restart the process immediately.” The union has cautioned that if the govt fails to act, sanitation workers across the state will boycott work.
