Union minister reviews BSF’s desert readiness

Jaisalmer: Union minister of state for home, Nityanand Rai, conducted a 3-day tour of the India-Pakistan border in Jaisalmer and Barmer districts from Saturday to Monday where he reviewed security arrangements and interacted with Border Security Force (BSF) personnel deployed in forward areas. He also offered prayers at Tanot Mata temple on the border and wished for peace and prosperity in the country. BSF Sector North DIG Jatinder Singh Binji, Sector South DIG M K Negi, Commandant 122 BN Mukesh Panwar, and other officers accompanied the minister on his tour.A key part of the tour included inspection of BSF border outpost (BoP) ‘Nalka’ which is operated entirely by women personnel. Officers briefed the minister on the outpost’s functioning, surveillance measures, border domination activities, and coordination mechanisms. Rai described the women personnel as “Veeranganas” and said their presence on forward fronts reflected India’s growing confidence in the capabilities of women in uniform.He said the deployment of women personnel at border outposts reflected Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on women empowerment and women-led development. He also referred to Union home minister Amit Shah’s leadership, under which, he said, BSF was strengthened through modern surveillance systems, improved infrastructure, advanced training, and welfare measures.Rai also conducted a vehicle patrol in the border area to understand terrain and operational challenges. He inspected the border fence, flood lighting system, surveillance infrastructure, and security arrangements aimed at preventing infiltration, smuggling, and other cross-border crimes. He expressed satisfaction with the security arrangements and the level of vigilance maintained by the force.
