Jaipur: To commemorate the 25th anniversary of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), Union Rural Development and Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan will inaugurate 1,216 roads worth Rs 2,089 crore in Merta Tuesday.In last 25 years, the state PWD has built more than 75,000 km of roads under PMGSY, providing all-weather connectivity to 15,983 villages and settlements.“Launched by former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Dec 25, 2000, the scheme has brought education, health, and new opportunities accessible to remote villages,” officials said.Under fourth phase 1,638 settlements had been identified for connectivity. The PWD plans to construct 3,219 km of new roads and one bridge to link 1,216 settlements at a cost of Rs 2,089 crore.
