Two students injured after ceiling fan falls in Barmer govt school classroom

Jaisalmer: Two students were injured after a ceiling fan, along with its hook, fell on them during class at a Govt Upper Primary School in Sansiyo Ka Tala village of Barmer district Monday morning, triggering panic among students and staff. The injured children were rushed to the district hospital in Barmer by school staff and locals, where they are undergoing treatment. According to officials, classes had just begun after the morning prayer assembly when the incident occurred. A running ceiling fan suddenly fell and hit two students sitting in the classroom. Students of Classes 1 and 2 are taught together in the same room. The injured students were identified as Manish (5), a Class 1 student and son of Arjunram, and Manish (6), a Class 2 student and son of Jabararam. Family members rushed to the hospital after being informed. Teacher Mukesh Aman said the two students had entered the classroom ahead of others and sat down when the fan hook attached to an iron panel broke, causing the fan to fall on them. Preliminary information suggests two fans were installed on an iron angle in the classroom. One hook had become loose and shifted closer to the other fan, and when the fans collided, the hook broke, causing the fan to fall. Tehsildar Hukmichand visited the school and said electrical fittings and fans would be inspected and repaired. Villagers also told officials that a child had received an electric shock at the school two days earlier, after which electrical boards were checked by a technician.
