Ajmer: A trailer truck crushed a woman to death on the Ajmer-Beawar highway near Nareili bypass Thursday afternoon, and the driver fled from the spot. Locals gathered at the accident site and staged a protest, blocking traffic on the highway for more than an hour.Police said Sarita Devi (39), a resident of Rasoolpura, was crossing the road when a speeding trailer truck coming from the Beawar side crushed her under its wheeels. The trailer then hit the road divider and was damaged. Villagers from Nareili gathered on the highway and said they had been demanding an underpass at this spot as they often have to cross the highway to reach the other side.Alwar Gate station police reached the spot and seized the trailer truck. SHO Narendra Jhakar said protesting villagers were persuaded to lift the highway blockade and talk to administrative officials about the road safety issue. He said police took the woman’s body for a postmortem and were looking for the driver.
