Triangular contest emerges in Anta bypoll after BJP rebel withdraws nomination

Jaipur: The Anta bypoll has shaped into a triangular contest between Congress candidate Pramod Jain Bhaya, BJP’s Morpal Suman, and independent candidate Naresh Meena after BJP rebel Rampal Meghwal withdrew his nomination Monday.Meghwal’s withdrawal came as a major relief for the BJP, which was grappling with internal dissent and the risk of a split in its traditional vote base. His decision followed a meeting with state BJP President Madan Rathore in Jaipur last week, where party leaders reportedly persuaded him to step back in the interest of unity. However, political observers believe the contest remains unpredictable, as Meena, a Congress rebel with significant local influence, could sway the outcome in key pockets of the constituency, impacting both the Congress and the BJP candidates.A total of five candidates, including Meghwal, withdrew their papers before the 3 PM deadline on Monday, leaving 15 candidates in the fray.Polling for the Anta seat will be held on Nov 11, with the results to be declared on Nov 14.
