Jaipur: In a bid to ease traffic congestion during the peak tourist season, Jaipur traffic police have implemented a temporary plan to adjust signal timings at major intersections on Delhi Road, Agra Road and MI Road from Sunday afternoon. This is the first instance of Jaipur police modifying signal timings specifically for the tourist season.Since Saturday morning, the stretch from Jaigarh t-point to Delhi Road on Amer Road had been converted into a one-way stretch, which increased the volume of traffic on Delhi Road, Agra Road and MI Road, officials said. “So, we tweaked the signal timings at a few crossings on these roads to help with the extra rush. This decision has been taken on instructions from police commissioner Sachin Mittal,” stated a traffic official. The signal at the intersection of Agra Road, MI Road and Sanganeri Gate now has its green phase extended for traffic coming from Transport Nagar/Moti Doongri Road towards Sanganeri Gate from morning till evening. This allows traffic from Delhi Road and Agra Road to enter the Walled City or head straight towards Yadgar Tiraha on Tonk Road. Also, on Saturday evening, a joint operation by Jaipur traffic police, district police, and the municipal corporation removed encroachments on the main roads of the Walled City, Amer area, and on these diverted routes to ensure smooth flow of traffic. “Diversions during the peak tourist season—from late Nov to early Jan—are nothing new in Jaipur. But considering the huge increase in the volume of city vehicles in the last one year, we had to plan a few new steps to cope with the situation,” a senior official explained.Earlier, on instructions from the police commissioner, the traffic police had rationalised timings of signal at a few other major intersections across the city.
