Jaipur: Traffic officials have warned of heavy congestion on city roads on New Year’s Day, especially on routes leading to tourist spots and religious sites. The police commissionerate has prepared an extensive traffic management plan to handle the anticipated rush, DC (traffic) Sumeet Meharda told TOI Wednesday.Mehta stated that during the winter tourist season this year, a new trend has been observed of tourists from other states visiting religious sites such as Moti Doongri Temple, Galta-ji Dham, Khole Ke Hanuman-ji, and Govind Dev-ji Temple.“As most of these religious sites are away from the traditional tourist spots, we have deployed additional manpower from other districts and from city’s police stations to manage the rush. We have also taken steps like dynamic one-way routes and no-entries on several stretches to ensure smooth flow of traffic,” stated Meharda. All traffic officials have been instructed to issue challans for any violation, especially for drunken driving, parking violations, and riding without helmets and seat belts.“The traffic department has procured display boards to be placed across the city. These boards will display information related to traffic conditions and will also make motorists aware of safe driving,” another official said.Only Amer Road-bound traffic will be allowed from Badi Choupar on Hawa Mahal Road. The road leading to Delhi Road from Amer Fort has also been temporarily made one-way, with vehicles from Delhi Road needing to go via Dhobi Ghat Circle or Transport Nagar to enter Jaipur city. “Traffic has also been restricted between Trimurti Circle and JDA Circle on JLN Marg from 5am to 9pm to manage the rush at Moti Doongri Temple. Vehicles have been completely restricted inside the City Palace compound as well,” another traffic official stated.
