Tourism dept to host statewide Ghoomar festival on Nov 19

Jaipur: Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari announced Tuesday that the state govt will organise a Ghoomar festival across all seven divisional headquarters next month to celebrate the state’s traditional royal dance form and promote it as a symbol of women’s empowerment and cultural pride.Kumari, who also holds the tourism portfolio, said the festival aims to revive the state’s living heritage and bring the popular folk dance closer to the youth, women, and the general public. “This initiative will help revive our living heritage and promote Rajasthan as a vibrant cultural tourism destination,” she said.The festival will be organised by the tourism department on Nov 19 and will be held simultaneously in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Ajmer, Bikaner, Bharatpur, and Kota.People looking to participate can register on a dedicated portal (ghoomar.rajasthan.gov.in) and through the department’s social media handles. Girls and women aged 12 years and above can register individually or in groups.For the competition segment, only group entries of 20 to 25 members will be accepted, a senior official of the department said.He said help desks have been set up at all divisional tourism offices to assist participants. Detailed guidelines and training schedules will be shared soon on the department’s website and social media platforms.The festival will feature awards in multiple categories. Winning groups will be invited to perform at major state tourism events, the official said.The festival is expected to become an annual statewide cultural event, linking heritage, tourism, and women’s participation while projecting Rajasthan’s rich traditions on a global stage.
