Jaipur: Heavy rainfall wreaked havoc across several parts of Rajasthan Monday, claiming one life and causing widespread damage in Bikaner, Ajmer, Jaipur and Hanumangarh divisions. In Bikaner’s Pugal area, a mud house collapsed due to incessant rain in Dantaur village, leaving one woman dead and another injured after being buried under the debris. In Hanumangarh district, continuous downpour since Sunday night triggered a flood-like situation, inundating govt offices and damaging part of the historic Hanumangarh Fort. The main gates of the collector and SP offices were submerged under 2–3 feet of water, while the Mahila Thana, District Consumer Commission, CO City, DST and Home Guard offices were also flooded. District officials said heavy rains in neighbouring Punjab added to the water inflow in Hanumangarh, raising concerns for downstream districts, including Sriganganagar. “The situation is being monitored closely. Teams have been deployed to ensure safety in low-lying areas,” officials said. Elsewhere in the state, heavy rainfall caused a portion of a 250-year-old temple in Srimadhopur (Sikar) to collapse. In Bhilwara district, more than half a dozen mud houses gave way in Shahpura town, while the Khari Dam in Asind overflowed for the second time this monsoon. Of the 60 ponds and dams under the district irrigation department, 31 have already overflowed this season. In Ajmer, where 90 mm of rain was recorded since early Monday, schools remained open despite the downpour. Students and parents were seen struggling to reach schools, while a bus in the Somalpur area was trapped in floodwater and rescued with villagers’ help using tractors. In Surya Nagar (Daurai), a family stranded in waterlogged streets was rescued with a JCB. According to official rainfall data, Asnavar (Jhalawar) received the highest at 150 mm, followed by Dungargarh (Bikaner) with 150 mm, Choti Sadari (Pratapgarh) 140 mm, Jhalawar and Jalore 130 mm, Todabhim (Karauli) and Jodhpur 110 mm each, Buhana (Jhunjhunu) and Malsisar (Jhunjhunu) 100 mm, Bhim (Rajsamand) 90 mm, and Sojat (Pali) 80 mm. Several other places recorded rainfall between 70 mm and 10 mm. The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall at many places in Jaipur, Ajmer, Udaipur, Bharatpur and Bikaner divisions in the coming days, warning residents to remain alert.
