Jaisalmer: A Bolero vehicle was swept away by the strong currents of the Luni River near the Jasol Bypass in Balotra district Wednesday, resulting in the deaths of Meera Devi and her two young daughters, Urmila and Pooja. Three individuals, including an eight-month-old boy, remain missing.The vehicle, carrying eight passengers, was enroute to the Jasol Mata Temple when it lost control on the river’s causeway around 1pm on Wednesday afternoon. Swift response from local residents and civil defence teams, aided by a JCB and crane, led to the retrieval of the vehicle. Two survivors, including the driver and Pemaram, are currently receiving treatment at Nahata Govt Hospital. Pemaram’s child, his wife Kabu Devi, and Ranidan Singh are still missing.Balotra district collector Sushil Kumar Yadav and SP Ramesh were among the officials who oversaw the rescue operations. “After recent rains, several causeways were closed due to water flow. Unfortunately, negligence led to this tragic incident,” district collector Sushil Kumar said.A search for the missing continues with the deployment of drones and additional resources. Authorities urged public to exercise caution, and a meeting with revenue officials was conducted to ensure closure of causeways with strong water flows.
