Suspected fake disability certs under probe in Sirohi district

Jaipur: In Sirohi, a preliminary investigation has revealed the issuance of disability certificates under the name of a doctor who was never posted in the district. The same doctor’s name appeared on certificates in Barmer, listed as an expert in various specialities, including eye and ENT. Sirohi’s Chief Medical Health Officer initiated the probe, uncovering suspected fake certificates.A preliminary investigation by Sirohi’s Chief Medical Health Officer uncovered the suspected issuance of fake disability certificates in the district. The health department launched an inquiry on Monday to determine the extent of the fake certificates issued from Sirohi. A senior health department official told TOI, “The investigation has been launched. Initially, we are checking randomly the validity of certificates to find out how many certificates are fake.”The official raised concerns about how a doctor not posted in Sirohi could have their name used as an expert in multiple specialities across different districts. The health department is verifying whether there is a doctor with that name in government service or if the name is being used hypothetically on the certificates. “We are investigating to find out how many fake certificates were issued,” he added. The investigation covers certificates issued from March 2019 to Jan 2025, during which 7,613 certificates were issued. The state govt has a separate portal for disability certificates from the centre’s portal. Doctors are required to submit information to both portals. However, the Chief Medical Health Officer’s report revealed that 5,177 certificates had names of different Chief Medical Health Officers on the state and centre portals.“The issue is sensitive and under investigation,” Dr Dinesh Kharadi, Sirohi’s Chief Medical Health Officer, told TOI.The health department has not yet confirmed whether the matter involves a scam of fake certificates. They are also examining potential technical issues related to the online issuance process.
