Jaipur: Displaying an excellent performance, Rajasthan’s Divyanshi Jain won the title in the Sub-Junior and Junior National Squash Championship which concluded in Chennai on Friday.Divyanshi of Sawai Mansingh Stadium-based Rajasthan Squash Academy clinched the gold medal by edging past Shanaya Parasrampuria of Maharashtra 11-3, 11-7, 7-11, 11-9 in a thrilling summit clash.Earlier in the quarterfinals, Divyanshi defeated Karnataka’s Saanvi Tidke in straight sets 11-1, 11-3, 11-2, while in the semis she prevailed over Tamil Nadu’s Deepa Debiram in a tough five-set battle — 14-12, 5-11, 10-12, 11-5, 11-9.According to a press release issued by Academy director Surbhi Misra, Dhairya Gogia and Prabhav Bajoria also did well to claim bronze medals. Dhairya accounted for Aditya Shah of Maharashtra 11-7, 11-9, 11-6 in the quarters but lost to Delhi’s Amarya Bajaj 5-11, 5-11, 8-11 in the semis.Prabhav downed Maharashtra’s Rishabh Shyam 11-9, 11-7, 11-5 in the quarters. However, Delhi’s Abhyudaya Arora stopped his run 9-11, 11-13, 9-11 in the semis.Former Indian squash star Surbhi Misra said that other young players of the academy also performed well in the competition, although they could not finish on the podium.Yuvaan Verma lost to Maharashtra’s Viraj Shinde 11-7, 11-5, 11-5 in the U-11 boys pre-quarterfinals to finish 13th, while Inaya Andrabi and Fareed Andrabi finished in the top 10 in the same category.Inaya Andrabi lost to Karnataka’s Aarona Pandey 11-6, 8-11, 11-4, 11-1 in the pre-quarters to finish 9th. Similarly, Fareed Andrabi also secured 9th place despite losing to Haryana’s Dhruv Johri 7-11, 12-10, 11-5, 14-12 (3-1).In the U-15 girls section, Gauri Ajmera finished sixth after losing to Karnataka’s Aarna Pandey 13-11, 8-11, 11-9, 1-11, 5-11 in the quarters and Gauri Jaiswal stood sixth after losing to Delhi’s Fabiha Nafees 11-8, 6-11, 6-11, 10-12 in the quarterfinals.
