Jaipur: The state transport department is observing road safety month from Jan 1 to Jan 30 across all districts in Rajasthan. Activities such as education drives, road engineering drives and awareness campaigns will be conducted by district road safety committees.The department also asked all the districts to address media at local level to inform the public about key accident spots and facilities available in the vicinity.District road safety committees were instructed to conduct a Reflective Tape Campaign across the district on a daily basis. Under this initiative, gram panchayats must put reflective tape on various types of non-motorised and motorised vehicles (tractor-trolley, motorcycle, dumper, etc) used in mining work. Reflective tape will also be put on the horns of animals. The monthly target for this campaign was set at 3,000 vehicles.The department asked the road safety committees to conduct audio-video presentations in gram panchayats, municipal wards, public places, schools and colleges daily throughout the month.As part of the drive, bushes and encroachments must be removed along a five-kilometre stretch daily in a district. Along with this, the local administration must install road furniture, carrying out remedial work in five major accident-prone areas or black spots.District administrations were also instructed to make road safety pioneers by distributing sweets in public places identified by the committees.In each secondary and senior secondary school in every district, one nodal teacher must be appointed to conduct the workshop in two shifts from 10 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 5 pm.Activities such as road safety slogan competitions, workshops, letter writing to parents requesting them to follow traffic signs and block-level essay writing competitions will be conducted in educational institutions.
