Jaipur: Widespread rainfall across Rajasthan since Monday has significantly raised water levels in rivers and reservoirs, with the Bisalpur Dam opening two gates Tuesday following heavy inflow from its catchment area. The showers, triggered by the impact of Cyclone Montha, brought much-needed relief but also led to a sharp fall in day temperatures across several regions.Rainfall between 5 mm and 10 mm was recorded at multiple places, with Mount Abu (Sirohi) receiving the highest at 10 mm. Cloudy skies and intermittent drizzle continued across Udaipur, Kota, and Jaipur divisions, keeping conditions cool and damp. In Jaipur, drizzle persisted through the day, intensifying around 3 pm and continuing till evening. The rainfall pulled the mercury down, with the city recording a maximum temperature of 24.3°C, about 8.1°C below normal, and a minimum of 20.6°C. The city also recorded an average rainfall of 5 mm. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said cloudy conditions are expected to persist until the first week of Nov, after which the skies will clear. “From Nov 7, a mainly clear sky and northerly winds will cause a further dip in temperatures. Minimum temperatures, currently between 20°C and 22°C, are likely to drop to 15°C–17°C,” an IMD official in Jaipur said. Meanwhile, regions such as Udaipur, Chittorgarh, and Bhilwara reported moderate rainfall and heaved a sigh of relief as heavy downpours subsided. The IMD forecast added that cloudy conditions would continue in parts of eastern and southern Rajasthan, including Ajmer, Kota, and Jaipur divisions, before clearer weather sets in next week.
