State outraged by gang rape of Banswara’s 16-year-old tribal girl

Udaipur: The brutal gang rape of a 16-year-old tribal girl from Banswara has ignited widespread political and public outrage across Rajasthan. The crime, which was committed on Aug 20, has drawn sharp criticism from opposition members and social activists, who are demanding swift justice and accountability.Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully took to social media Monday to condemn the crime, criticising the ruling BJP govt for failing to protect women in the state. “This is the reality of BJP’s ‘Save Daughter, Educate Daughter’ slogan. The brutal incident of gang rape and injury to the private parts of a 16-year-old girl in Banswara is deeply disturbing,” Jully wrote. The young girl was abducted by two minors while returning home from school. Despite her resistance, she was taken to a secluded location where the horrific crime was committed. The main suspect has been detained and Banswara police have launched a comprehensive investigation. The minor was subjected to extreme brutality, including the insertion of a bottle into her private parts, leaving her unconscious. She was found in a dire condition by a passerby the next day and rushed to a hospital. She was later transferred to MB Hospital in Udaipur, where she underwent surgery.Hospital officials report that her condition is improving. The girl’s family, devastated by the incident, reported the crime to the police. However, initial reports suggest local authorities attempted to downplay the severity of the case, registering it as an accident. This has drawn criticism from social activists and political figures. Congress spokesperson and tribal rights activist Divyani Katara, who visited the girl in the hospital, expressed her shock and anger, comparing the incident to the infamous Nirbhaya case.Udaipur MP Mannalal Rawat has called for a thorough investigation and immediate action against the accused, urging the district collector to provide assistance to the family through govt schemes.
