Jaipur: The Rajasthan govt has merged 97 schools with nearby institutions with zero enrollment after the education department issued the order for merger Friday, which includes 88 primary schools and nine upper primary schools. Over 800 govt schools with low enrollment have been merged this year.An order issued by secondary education director Sitaram Jat said despite various efforts being made timely to increase enrollment in govt schools, some primary and upper primary govt schools have zero enrollment for a considerable period.The move aims to improve quality of education and optimise available resources.Following reorganisation, teaching posts in the merged schools will be reassessed based on student strength. Surplus teachers will be posted to vacant positions in other schools as per rules. Until then, they will be temporarily deployed to nearby govt schools within the same panchayat where teacher strength is inadequate.In Nov, education minister Madan Dilawar announced the merger of 312 schools, which included 155 senior secondary schools with 25 students or fewer and 157 upper primary schools with five students or fewer. In Jan this year, 449 schools with zero or low enrollment were merged.
