Jaipur: Festive celebrations on Diwali night descended into neighbourhood clashes across the city, prompting police to register six FIRs linked to disputes over firecrackers. Loud noise, excessive smoke, and reckless bursting of crackers in residential localities allegedly triggered verbal and physical confrontations.Police said they received multiple calls from different parts of Jaipur regarding quarrels that flared up when residents objected to fireworks being lit near houses, parked vehicles, or public roads. “Every year after Diwali, these complaints come to the fore due to neighbour quarrels. In some cases, police also intervened and brokered peace,” said an official, adding that additional personnel were deployed across the city to prevent major escalation.While many complaints were confined to heated arguments, officials confirmed that several incidents escalated into violent attacks. In one FIR, a woman alleged that neighbours threw burning crackers at her and a family member while they were standing outside their house, causing their clothes to catch fire. When they protested, the accused allegedly barged into the house, beat them with sticks and iron rods, hurled abuses, and snatched jewellery.In another case, a man reported that his brother was slapped by a neighbour after an argument over bursting crackers in front of their house. The altercation intensified, and the complainant’s wife sustained a nose injury while trying to pacify the fight.Police also recorded a violent incident from a field on the city outskirts, where a young man was attacked with an axe by neighbours allegedly angered over firecrackers. He suffered serious injuries to his right hand and required hospitalisation.A woman in Bindayaka alleged that she and her husband were assaulted after they asked neighbours to move away from their vehicle while bursting crackers. Another FIR stated that a group of around 24 people were allegedly throwing explosive firecrackers at passing vehicles. When a motorist asked them to clear the road, the group reportedly attacked him, robbed his gold chain and cash, and issued death threats.In yet another complaint, a resident lighting lamps outside his home confronted two boys bursting crackers close to parked vehicles, including a CNG car. When he requested they shift away, the boys allegedly abused and assaulted him and his family members.
