Jaipur: A 45-year-old shopkeeper was shot dead in Bharatpur Sunday night, prompting protests by the victim’s family. Police identified the deceased as Ashok Singh, a resident of Phulwara village.Police said, two men called Singh out to a location in the city and shot him. He was bleeding profusely when taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.On Monday morning, the victim’s family initially refused to allow the postmortem, demanding immediate arrests. The situation eased after police informed them that three suspects were arrested. Following this, the family allowed the postmortem to proceed. Police officials assured the family of swift action against the remaining accused. Several residents, angered by the murder, gathered at the mortuary in support of the family.Police said five persons from Peepala village, all known anti-social elements, are suspected to be involved in the killing. Two of them have been detained so far. Search teams were dispatched to Kosi, Palwal, and Mathura to nab the others.Singh is survived by his wife and three children. His elder son, Brajesh, assisted him at the shop, while his younger son, Sachin, works in a private firm.
