Jaipur. In a top-down initiative to enhance uniformed presence and visibility on the streets, officers of Rajasthan police’s senior echelon set out on three-hour-long foot patrols in their respective jurisdictions Monday on instructions of the Director General of Police.The drive saw inspector generals of police, police commissioners of Jaipur and Jodhpur, district SPs and DCPs hoofing it out on jurisdictions they are mostly used to supervising on maps.In Jaipur, commissioner of police Sachin Mittal, together with a team that included ACP (traffic and admin) Yogesh Dadhich, DCP (north) Karan Sharma, and others, set out on a foot patrol from Manak Chowk to Chandpole from 6pm to 9pm.“The idea is to enhance police visibility. This is just the beginning, and similar activities will continue,” DGP Rajiv Sharma told TOI.To ensure strict compliance and real-time monitoring during the exercise, officers were instructed to upload photographs and videos of their patrol activity to a dedicated WhatsApp link. The link has been shared via official email with all concerned officers. The State Control Room has also been directed to disseminate the instructions across the police network and monitor adherence.“Enhanced visibility of officers on the streets will act as a deterrent to criminal activities, help in identifying trouble spots, and improve direct communication with local residents. Foot patrolling will also conveying a strong message to anti-social elements,” said Sanjay Agarwal, DG (Law and Order).
