Jaipur: Rajasthan edged out Uttarakhand 3-2 to start their campaign on a rousing note in the Santosh Trophy, organised by the All India Football Federation, at Dibrugarh in Assam on Wednesday.In the Group A final round opening encounter, both teams were tied at 2-2 at halftime.From the kick-off, Rajasthan played aggressively, and in the very first minute opened their account.Rajasthan’s Ishan Rajoria’s brilliant cross from the left wing was intercepted by Amit, who scored with a brilliant header. This was Rajasthan’s fastest ever goal in the history.Similarly, in the 25th minute of the game, Rajasthan’s Amit crossed from the right wing, which Rajasthan captain Mukesh Choudhary utilised with a brilliant header to increase the lead 2-0.Uttarakhand then made a strong comeback, resulting in a penalty due to a foul by Amit, which Uttarakhand converted into a goal. Shortly before halftime, Uttarakhand scored another goal to level the score 2-2.After the change of ends, Rajasthan changed their strategy and started a long pass game, resulting in a free kick in the 70th minute, which was crossed by experienced Rajasthan player Altaf. Rajasthan captain Mukesh made a brilliant header to make it 3-2, a score that held until the end. Thus, Rajasthan got off to a good start by winning their first match. Rajasthan’s next match will be against Tamil Nadu on January 23.
