Jaipur: In a startling revelation, sandbags meant to prevent flooding during the monsoon in Jaipur were found to be half empty at the flood control centres set up by Jaipur Municipal Corporation-Heritage (JMC-H). While the official count of bags was accurate, the weight of each bag was reportedly only 18kg instead of the standard 32kg, raising serious concerns about siphoning of resources.The issue came to light during an inspection by the chairman of JMC-H’s health and sanitation committee, who noted clear negligence in the way the soil bags were being filled. His visit prompted swift action from JMC-H officials, who are now rushing to review the handling of materials.According to official figures, over 12,000 sandbags were distributed across the city in preparation for this year’s monsoon. It has now come to light that many of them were inadequately filled, compromising their effectiveness against waterlogging and flooding.
