Jaipur: A tragic accident was averted at Phulera Railway Station in Jaipur division of North Western Railways (NWR) Thursday night when a woman constable of Railway Protection Force (RPF) showed remarkable presence of mind and rescued a passenger who slipped between the platform and tracks while attempting to board a moving train.Incident occurred around 9.30 pm on platform number 3 when a passenger tried to board Yoga Express after it had started moving.According to officials, the passenger had stepped down from the train to fill water at the station. While he was away, the train began to depart. In a hurry to catch it, he ran towards the coach and tried to board the moving coach. However, he lost his balance and slipped into the narrow gap between the platform and the railway tracks, risking a fatal accident.Saroj Bhakar, head constable of RPF posted at the station,noticed the incident and immediately rushed to the spot. She grabbed the passenger and pulled him away from the gap just in time, preventing a possible tragedy.Station staff and passengers nearby also rushed to assist. Following the rescue, railway staff signalled the train manager to halt the train immediately to ensure the passenger’s safety.When contacted, Amit Sudarshan, Chief Public Relations Officer, NWR, said, “The effort needs appreciation. We will recommend this act for an award as it was a brave effort for the passenger’s safety.”After the rescue, the shaken passenger was safely escorted back into the coach, and the train resumed its journey.
