Jaipur: A discussion over the functioning of mobile veterinary units sparked a heated exchange in the Rajasthan Assembly Tuesday, with Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully alleging discrepancies in the data presented by the govt.Animal Husbandry and Dairy Minister Joraram Kumawat informed the House that the Mobile Veterinary Unit service was launched on Feb 24, 2024. He said that in the initial months, there was no call centre system and veterinary teams operated through village-level camps. “At that time, camps were organised in villages and mobile veterinary units visited these locations. All animals present at the camps were treated. Therefore, the data also includes animals treated during these camps,” Kumawat said. The minister added that a call centre was set up on Oct 9, 2024, making the service more structured. “Since the launch of the call centre, each mobile veterinary van treated an average of six animals per day,” he said. Jully, however, questioned the figures shared in the House. He pointed out that the minister had stated that 36,549 animals were treated till Feb 15. “There are three mobile veterinary units operating, and each van treats six animals daily. The numbers do not add up. These figures appear fabricated. There should be an investigation,” Jully said. The issue led to a brief verbal exchange between Jully and the Parliamentary Affairs Minister during the discussion.
