JAIPUR: A minor incident of road rage escalated into multiple serious crimes after a lawyer involved in a brush-up with another vehicle in the city’s roads was assaulted, kidnapped and his family subjected to extortion demands, police said. Following a complaint from the family, Sanganer police rescued the kidnapped lawyer from a village in Dausa Sunday and arrested seven persons for their involvement in the incident.Police said the initial accident took place late on Jan 10, when lawyer Mandvendra Singh was driving towards Mansarovar and happened to brush against another car. Following a brief verbal spat, he was chased down to a dead end near Royal Avenue in Sitabadi.

“There, the accused assaulted Singh and forced him into their car before driving away to Lalsoth village in Dausa,” a senior police officer said.While in their captivity, the kidnappers forced Singh to call his family and ask for Rs 16,000 to pay for the damage to their car. The accused sent a QR code to the lawyer’s wife and obtained the amount, but then began making demands for more money, police said. The family finally approached Sanganer police station Sunday with a formal complaint.“A team was immediately dispatched to Dausa to rescue the lawyer and nab the accused,” said Sanjeev Nain, deputy commissioner of police (East). A preliminary investigation indicated all seven accused had driven down to Jaipur from Dausa on the night of Jan 10 for a party.Police have seized the vehicle involved in the incident, as well as the mobile phones of all seven accused.They have been identified as Shivraj Saini (25), Phool Singh Saini (26), Ravi Saini (20), Pintu Saini (25), Bunty Ram Saini (24), Ashish Meena (25), and Malkesh Saini (24), all residents of the Bamanwas area of Sawai Madhopur district.Police said one of the accused, Phool Singh Saini, works as a security guard for a private company at Mahindra SEZ in Jaipur.
