Jaipur: The medical education department has prepared a list of facilities that the upcoming Rajasthan Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) will provide to patients. The state govt will present the ‘Rajasthan Institute of Medical Sciences, Jaipur Bill 2025’ in the state assembly soon.Health minister Gajendra Khimsar said that RIMS will function as an autonomous institute and university, granting degrees, diplomas, and other academic recognitions under the National Medical Commission Act, 2019. The chief secretary will be the chairman of RIMS, and a director will be appointed on deputation. A governing body will be formed, including experts from prestigious national institutions like AIIMS New Delhi, PGI Chandigarh, and IIM. It is proposed to integrate RUHS and the State Cancer Institute, Jaipur into RIMS. Medical education secretary Ambrish Kumar said that RIMS will offer super-specialty services like cardiology, neurology, gastroenterology, neurosurgery, urology, plastic surgery, endocrinology, nephrology, CTVS, and transplant units. Additionally, new sub-specialty departments such as paediatric cardiology, geriatric medicine, rheumatology, reproductive biology, genetics, biotechnology, nuclear medicine, sleep medicine, and critical care will be established. The institute will focus on the development of super-specialty and broad specialty, quaternary-level referral hospital services, postgraduate teaching in modern medicine and allied sciences (AYUSH systems – Ayurveda and Yoga), and innovative research on specific health aspects of the state. It will also take steps in teacher training and innovation in treatment protocols for primary, secondary, and tertiary care. Eligible patients under govt policies and schemes will receive free treatment at RIMS, reducing the patient load on other govt hospitals and providing world-class super-specialty facilities. RIMS will operate as an autonomous institution with a dedicated fund. The state govt proposes to spend Rs-100 crore on the infrastructure development of RIMS. An annual budget of Rs5-crore is allocated for other expenses, which can be increased as needed. RIMS will provide training to medical, dental, and nursing colleges, rural and urban health centres, and healthcare workers like physiotherapists and pharmacists, encouraging physicians to focus on institutional excellence rather than private practice. After the RIMS bill is passed by the assembly, proceedings will begin for the appointment of various subject experts and directors, and contracts will be made with various world-class medical institutions for international exchanges and research.
