Jaipur: A Christmas celebration at a private school in Nagaur was disrupted Thursday when a group of right-wing activists stormed the premises, accusing the institution of indulging in illegal religious conversions, and vandalised the decorations.According to the local police, initially three individuals, two young men and an elderly man, who identified themselves as members of Bajrang Dal entered the St Xavier’s School, which is owned by an individual and not by any missionary trust. The trio objected to the Christmas festivities, claiming these were a guise for religious conversion. Soon other people joined the three vandals. Shaitan Ram Changal, the school owner, told the media that the group threatened children and engaged in a scuffle with teachers. “When I arrived at the scene, they began to assault me as well,” Changal recounted. The school staff managed to restrain the three individuals, while others involved fled the scene. Before fleeing, the group dismantled Christmas decorations, including balloons, and caused damage by overturning tables and stools, resulting in chaos. The staff, alarmed by vandalism and hostility, contacted the Kotwali police station, which sent a team of policemen to detain the three men locked in the school. Confirming the incident, SHO Kotwali Vedpal Shivran said, “The school has not yet submitted any written complaint. However, investigation into the incident is underway.” The SHO denied that anyone was injured. The police officer confirmed that three accused were detained and taken to the station for questioning.
