Ajmer: A 48-year-old retired BSF soldier, Manroop Rayal, died by suicide in Nagaur district’s on Thursday after fatally shooting his brother-in-law, Papu Meghwal, with his licensed pistol. A six-minute video on social media showed Rayal claiming a family breakdown and blaming his in-laws for his actions. In the video, Rayal, a resident of Khagata village, Jodhpur, said he was harassed by his in-laws and wife. The incident prompted police to deploy additional force in Chandawat ki Dhani village, Nokha. Merta Nagaur circle officer Ramkaran Singh Malinda, said, “A team took the bodies for post-mortem at Gotan. SP Nagaur Narayan Togas and teams from various police stations arrived as tensions rose.” He added that the FSL team gathered evidence and seized the firearm used in the shootings. Dhermesh Dayama, SHO of Merta police station, said that Rayal was experiencing marital issues with his wife, Munni Devi (42), who lived with her family in Chandawat ki Dhani. “In his video, Rayal claimed that his two sisters-in-law and their husbands were provoking his wife and attempting to dismantle his family. He attempted to counsel his wife but ultimately decided to teach them a lesson,” the police said. According to witnesses, Rayal arrived at Chandawat ki Dhani around 4.30 am on Thursday. When he saw his brother-in-law, Papuram (36), an employee of the Chandawat Panchayat Samiti, Rayal aimed his gun at him and shot him dead. Subsequently, he shot himself dead.
