Jaipur: The family of Rakesh Vishnoi, the 30-year-old resident doctor at SN Medical College in Jodhpur who died by suicide, performed his last rites in Nagaur Saturday. Vishnoi’s body had been kept in SMS Hospital’s mortuary for one week, with the family demanding action against the head of the college’s pharmacology department for allegedly harassing Vishnoi and driving him to suicide. With the medical college inititating action against the doctor — SN Medical College removed Dr Raj Kumar Rathore as head of the pharmacology department — the family expressed satisfaction, agreeing to accept Vishnoi’s body and to cremate him. Rathore had faced allegations of harassing the resident doctor, who ended his life by consuming a harmful substance. Resident doctors protested the incident and demanded that the medical college remove Rathore from his post. In addition to acceding to this demand, govt also assured the family of compensation and a govt job to one person from the deceased resident doctor’s family. Following the action, resident doctors called off their strike and joined duties from Saturday morning. “A special investigation team (SIT) has been constituted, headed by an IAS rank official. The SIT will investigate the matter and present its report in 45 days,” Dr Heera Lal Yadav, President, Resident Doctor’s Association Jodhpur (RDAJ), told TOI. RDAJ said Rathore was removed from all administrative posts in SN Medical College and sent to Jaipur headquarters.
