Jaipur: After the verandah roof outside three shops in Nehru Bazaar in the Walled City collapsed Saturday night, Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) barricaded the area on Sunday as a safety measure and cleared the debris on Monday.Explaining the repair process, JMC Vigilance DC-II Pushpendra Singh Rathore said, “This work may take about one month because, along with the verandah roof, the pillars and the floor will also need to be reconstructed. For the time being, JMC has provided a temporary solution.” The falling debris caused significant damage to the three shops. Their shutters were broken and electric wires snapped, forcing the shopkeepers to arrange repairs on their own to keep their businesses running.Atul Ahuja, president of the Nehru Bazaar Vyapar Mandal, said, “After the accident, the corporation removed all the fallen debris today. The losses suffered by the shopkeepers were repaired by them at their own cost. However, after the verandah roof collapsed, the roofs of 3 to 4 shops ahead also became loose, and it is very important that these are repaired as soon as possible. Keeping the tourist season in mind, everyone has reopened their shops.”
