Jaipur: The health department of Rajasthan will use Ferric Carboxymaltose (FCM) injection to curb anaemia among pregnant women in the state. The department will organise an FCM Pink Drive fortnight from Nov 17-Nov 10 with the aim of controlling and treating anaemia, one of the major causes of maternal deaths.According to the health department, FCM iron injection such as Orofer FCM is used for the treatment of iron deficiency anaemia. Ferric Carboxymaltose provides iron to the body, increasing red blood cell formation and haemoglobin, which is necessary for oxygen supply.In collaboration with development partner Jhpiego, the health department organised a state-level workshop on the use of FCM for anaemia management in pregnant women on Wednesday. District reproductive and child health officers, gynaecologists, other health specialists and representatives of development partners from across the state participated.National Health Mission mission director Dr Amit Yadav launched the FCM Pink Drive fortnight to be conducted across the state. He also launched FCM guidelines, a poster and the digital Garbh Sutra application for calculating correct dosages for service providers.He said that these digital innovations are an important step towards strengthening service providers’ capacity building, real-time monitoring, and data-based decision-making. He mentioned that special attention is being given to evidence-based strategies and system strengthening to continuously reduce the maternal mortality rate in the state.Officials discussed detailed information about FCM usage and guidelines through a presentation before the launch. Safety protocols, service delivery systems, and data recording and reporting standards were also discussed to strengthen the state’s commitment to ensuring quality, safety and sustainability in anaemia management.According to the official, proper utilisation of FCM can be implemented as a game-changing activity for improving maternal health.
