Kolkata: The three Rajasthan-based gangsters who were nabbed in Kolkata wanted to visit the Kalighat temple but realised something was amiss as soon as they arrived at Sealdah on Thursday. Sources said the accused — Ganpat Gurjar, Mahesh Gurjar and Dharmendra Gurjar — were expecting some online payments to sponsor their trip once they arrived in Kolkata after visiting four other states, but that payment never came through.According to Lalbazar sources, after murdering businessman Ramesh Rumalia inside a gym on Oct 7, the accused — members of the Rautamram Swami alias Rohit Godara gang that was involved in the firing at actor Disha Patani‘s home on Sept 12 — visited the Tirupati temple in south India. However, the trio was not directly involved in the firing.“The accused claimed during interrogation that they planned to visit Kalighat as well. However, instead of going towards Kalighat, they moved towards Salt Lake even as they wanted to contact an acquaintance who was not aware of their recent crime,” said a Kolkata Police source. The arrest of the fourth, Md Zuber, in central India on Saturday, after he escaped from Kolkata despite a police chase, is expected to clarify why the accused decided to come to Phoolbagan instead of Kalighat. They also visited the Jagannath Temple in Puri and the temple in Deoghar before arriving in Kolkata. They arrived at Howrah by train on Thursday afternoon and went to Sealdah that evening. From a shop there, they bought clothes and went into hiding in the Phoolbagan-Kadapara area. The ARS of KP DD and the state’s STF detectives interrogated them. “We do know that one Jeetu had appointed them and provided them this Supari, but he never paid them as much as was promised. We also know that it was Ganpat who actually fired the two rounds at the businessman even as Dharmendra drove around the SUV, which was critical to the commission of the crime and then the escape,” claimed a police source. Initially, cops learned that the arrested individuals were seeking refuge in this city but did not have money. “A person they knew from another state was making online payments for them at their destinations. Two bags and a phone were recovered from the accused,” added the source.
