Times News NetworkJaipur: The State Election Commission (SEC) said Tuesday it had raised expenditure limits for candidates contesting elections for panchayati raj institutions and urban local bodies.The spending limit for sarpanch candidates has been doubled from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh, panchayat samiti contestants from Rs 75,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh, and zilla parishad contenders from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 3 lakh.Candidates for municipal (nagar nigam) elections can now spend up to Rs 3.5 lakh, up from Rs 2.5 lakh. For municipal council (nagar parishad), the ceiling has been raised from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2 lakh, while the limit for municipal board (nagar palika) has been doubled from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh.The commission has also imposed stringent restrictions on campaign logistics. Candidates will not be permitted to use buses, trucks, mini-buses, vans, or animal-driven carts such as tongas, camel carts, or bullock carts for electioneering.
