Jaisalmer: India’s first radio-collared caracal has recently been active close to the India-Pakistan border, forest department officers said Sunday.They said the animal hunted at a site near the border, where the presence of a second caracal was also confirmed nearby. The department believes possible contact between the two animals—who may be on opposite sides of the international border fence—may have influenced the collared caracal’s movement toward the border. Its activity is currently reported to be confined within about 5-6 sq km from the border.With the animal moving into areas under border security control, the forest department has begun coordinating with the Border Security Force (BSF) to strengthen surveillance and ensure the caracal’s safety. Officers said such coordination is routine to support wildlife conservation work in sensitive border zones.
