Jaipur: Within two hours of Jaipur Municipal Corporation sealing properties as part of action against two major hotels in city Monday, both hotel managements cleared their dues for urban development (UD) tax, following which JMC unsealed the properties.The revenue team of JMC’s Malviya Nagar zone sealed a luxury car showroom and a restaurant located outside the premises of Hotel Marriott near Jawahar Circle. The hotel group had UD tax dues amounting to Rs 5 cr, officials said.Similarly, action was taken against Hotel Ramada in Raja Park, where dues of Rs 1 cr were pending, officials said.Malviya Nagar zone deputy commissioner Mukut Singh said representatives of both Marriott and Ramada reached the JMC office within two hours of the action and submitted cheques to clear the outstanding tax. The sealed properties were subsequently reopened, he said.Revenue officer Pawan Meena said that the car showroom and restaurant outside Hotel Marriott had not paid UD tax since 2007, despite repeated notices. Payment was made only after the sealing action.In the case of Hotel Ramada, the issue was under dispute for a long time. The hotel management was seeking to pay tax at industrial rates, whereas JMC classified it under commercial rates and issued demand notices accordingly. The dues for this property were also pending since 2007.
