Police probe suicide angle in Muhana couple’s death

Jaipur: A day after a married couple was found dead in their flat in Dadu Dayal Nagar in Muhana area, police said Saturday that initial postmortem findings indicate the two died by suicide. The death of both was caused by hanging and there were no visible injury marks on their bodies, police said. The deceased were identified as Dharmendra Choudhary, 35, who worked at a private finance company, and his wife Suman Choudhary, 30, who was preparing for competitive exams. Police believe it was Suman who hanged herself first. When Dharmendra found her dead, he took her body down and then hanged himself. No suicide note was found at the scene. The police have obtained the CCTV footage of the parking area of the apartment building that shows Dharmendra trying to start his car Thursday afternoon while Suman attempts to stop him. She stands near the car, preventing him from leaving. Dharmendra eventually moves her aside and reverses the vehicle, but Suman again obstructs his way. Following a prolonged argument, Dharmendra parks the car again, steps out, and the couple continues to talk.Later, around 10.56pm Thursday, another CCTV clip shows the couple entering the building together, with Suman holding a bag. This was the last time they were seen alive. The police are probing several angles including the possiblity of an extramerital affair. Police suspect that the woman hanged herself after a fight. Dharmendra got her body down and when realised that she had died, he too hanged himself. Originally from Bharatpur district, the couple was living alone in the flat while their two children were in the village. Their family members on Saturday took the bodies back to their native place for final rites.Muhana SHO Guru Bhupendra Singh said statements from family members will be recorded to check if there were any disputes between the husband and wife.A friend of Dharmendra’s raised an alarm after repeated calls went unanswered. When he visited the flat, he found them dead and alerted police. A team from Muhana police station arrived at the scene and took the bodies into custody. A forensic team also inspected the flat and collected evidence.
