Police op sparks violent clash in Tonk village

Bhilwara: A tense confrontation erupted in Polyada village, Tonk district, on Sunday when a Punjab Police team, in plain clothes, attempted to apprehend a suspect linked to an old case. The operation targeted a settlement known for fraudulent activities involving fake gold and opium. As the police moved in, a scuffle ensued with the villagers, escalating into stone-pelting. Senior officials, including Deoli DSP Ramsingh Jat and several SHOs, rushed to the scene to defuse the situation.The clash intensified when the Rajasthan Special Operations Group (SOG) joined the Punjab Police. Villagers, particularly women and children, accused the officers of using excessive force, claiming they were beaten and their homes were vandalised. The altercation led to the detention of several villagers.Tonk SP Rajesh Meena confirmed the joint operation aimed at apprehending a suspect involved in NDPS and fraud cases. He acknowledged the villagers’ aggressive response and assured a thorough investigation, with an FIR pending. Despite the initial chaos, authorities restored calm in the area.
