Alwar: In an incident that has raised serious questions about police accountability, three members of a family, including a 12-year-old boy, were found dead by the roadside near Girdharpur toll plaza in Bharatpur district’s Kanjauli village Saturday morning.The deceased were identified as Anita (37), her son Letesh (12) and her sister’s son Shubham (26). Evidence suggests the trio consumed poison, with a suspicious powder packet found near their bodies, Bharatpur’s Sewar police said.What makes this tragedy particularly heart-wrenching is that the deaths might have been prevented had the Sewar and Hindaun’s Sadar police acted on time on the missing person report filed by Anita’s in-laws.According to Digambar Singh, Anita’s brother, the family had approached Sewar police station around midnight on Friday with crucial information about his missing sister’s location. However, cops allegedly dismissed his concerns, asking him to return the next morning at 10am. By then, it was too late.“Three lives could have been saved if the police had taken immediate action,” said a visibly distraught Singh. The incident has exposed glaring lapses in police response across two jurisdictions. Despite a missing person report being filed at Hindaun’s Sadar police station on Friday, neither did they contact their Bharatpur counterparts nor take any action to locate the missing individuals, whose mobile location they knew.Anita, who was married to Devendra, a contractor based in Mysore, lived with her four children at her in-laws’ house in Kheda Jamalpur village in Karauli district’s Hindaun town. She had left home on July 31, telling her in-laws she was taking her son to see a doctor in Bharatpur. When they didn’t return, the family began searching for them.Adding another layer to this tragic story, a video of Anita has surfaced where she defends her nephew Shubham against alleged defamation, though the context remains unclear.Bharatpur superintendent of police Digant Anand confirmed the deaths as suicide and stated that investigation into the motives was ongoing. The incident has sparked public outrage on social media over police negligence and raised questions about the effectiveness of emergency response systems in the state.Anita is survived by her husband and three daughters – Sanjana (15), Vandana (9), and Diksha (7). Bharatpur police have left it for Hindaun police to further investigate the matter.
