Parents’ group plans to protest changes in RET admission rules

Jaipur: The Sanyukt Abhibhavak Sangh, representative body of aggrieved parents in the state, is planning to protest over changes in rules for admission in private schools under the Right to Education (RTE).The Rajasthan High Court, last week observed that admission under RTE should be provided in private schools only in the foundational standard, whether it is nursery or Class 1. Parents said that due to such an order, the future of almost 2.5 lakh students is in a limbo as in the city most schools start from nursery and majority of applications were filled by parents for admission from Class 1.“Students from economically weaker sections get a chance to study in good private schools through RTE, but now with this order, students’ future is in a limbo. Out of over 3 lakh admission forms filled for admission under RTE, majority were filled for Class 1, and private schools which start from nursery are now refusing to give admission to eligible students,” said Abhishek Jain Bittu, spokesperson of the association. The parents’ body will approach the court now to present their side in this case. “Now the parents who applied for admission through RTE this year have decided to approach the courts and come out on the roads too if needed,” added Bittu. The parents’ body will also be conducting a meeting Sunday to discuss further strategies.
