Jaipur: Luxury train Palace on Wheels began its first journey of the season Wednesday, carrying around 40 guests, including 30 tourists from the United States, along with passengers from other countries.The train was flagged off from New Delhi’s Safdarjung railway station by Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) managing director and tourism commissioner, Rukmini Riar, in the presence of dignitaries from the travel and tourism industry.“The Palace on Wheels is the pride of Rajasthan. This year, we received excellent bookings. The train covers the unique and historical heritage of Rajasthan over seven days, making it a one-of-a-kind experience,” Riar said at the event.Tow years ago, RTDC leased out the luxury train to a private company for its operation and management.Calling the train “the pride of India,” O&M operator Bhagat Singh said, “The Palace on Wheels not only symbolises our heritage and hospitality but also plays a vital role in taking Indian tourism to new heights globally.”Launched in 1982, the Palace on Wheels remains one of the sought-after luxury trains, offering tourists an immersive journey through Rajasthan’s forts, palaces, and cultural treasures.
