Jaipur: City traffic police have decided to partially implement zone segregation policy for e-rickshaws from Jan 18, allowing only 250 e-rickshaws within the Walled City area, while the rest of e-rickshaws will ply normally elsewhere in the city. Speaking to TOI, DCP (traffic) Sumeet Meharda stated it would take some time to fully implement the zone segregation policy for e-rickshaws.“It has been decided to segregate e-rickshaws in Jaipur into seven zones. Zone 7 is meant for areas inside the Walled City. As traffic movement inside Walled City improved after we restricted e-rickshaw movement from Dec 20, we decided to continue with the process. The best way is to implement the segregation policy and allow only 250 e-rickshaws inside Walled City,” Meharda said.Traffic police also notified that movement of e-rickshaws will remain suspended inside the Walled City till Jan 18.Traffic officials stated that to ensure smooth flow of traffic, Zone 7 has been further divided into five sub-zones, 7A to 7E, and e-rickshaws from one sub-zone won’t be allowed to enter another.“Each of the sub-zone will be allotted 50 e-rickshaws,” an official said.Traffic dept has requested applications from interested e-rickshaw drivers and owners with valid documents for allocation of licence to operate inside Walled City. A lottery will be conducted to select 250 e-rickshaws, officials said.
