Officials in Sawai Madhopur under lens in extortion racket

Jaipur: Govt officials in Sawai Madhopur are under scrutiny in an extortion racket. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) is preparing to take action against several govt officials from the transport, forest, and mining departments in Sawai Madhopur. These officials are suspected of paying monthly bribes to ACB officers to avoid being implicated in corruption cases. This move is part of the ongoing investigation into the extortion racket allegedly run by ACB’s own Additional SP Surendra Kumar Sharma and Inspector Vivek Soni, both of whom were arrested.According to senior ACB officials, the preliminary investigation revealed that some officials regularly paid fixed monthly sums through a middleman, identified as Pradeep, in exchange for protection. The payments were allegedly meant to keep their names out of any corruption probes or complaints.Officials stated that mobile call records of Pradeep, who was arrested on Monday along with Sharma and another middleman, Ram Raj Meena, have provided crucial leads. The records are helping ACB identify the officials who maintained frequent contact with the accused and are now under scrutiny.
