Jaipur: Dilip Shivpuri and Rajendra Goyal stormed into the singles finals in their respective categories on the second day of the O N Dixit Memorial ITF World Tennis Masters MT-400 tournament at the Jai Club here on Sunday.In the semi-finals of the men’s 70 years age group, Dilip Shivpuri defeated Rajendra Singh 2-6, 6-4 (10-8), while VS Singh Negi outclassed Jagat Singh Rathore 6-1, 6-4 to enter the final.In the men’s 55 years age section, Tikam Singh Panwar downed Jaiprakash Nishad 6-0, 7-6 (10-5) to book his berth in the quarters. Ashutosh Avinash Pednekar beat Bharat Singh 6-4, 6-4, Srinivas Reddy Gunnala trounced Yogesh Kohli 6-4, 6-2, while Bal Kishan Bhatia got the better of Anand Murthy 6-3, 6-0 to join Panwar in the last eight.Dilip Singh Nongmaithem dismissed Pawan Jain 4-6, 6-1 (10-6) in the pre-quarterfinals of the 65 years section. Lalit Sharma accounted for Naresh Rajora 6-1, 6-0, Boyan Gorenc (Slovenia) thumped Surender Pal Singh 6-0, 6-1, while Ajit Bhardwaj prevailed over Sandeep Nijhawan 7-5, 6-0 to clinch the last eight spots.In the men’s 75 years age group semi-finals, Dhawal Patel rallied back to beat Ashok Jindal 2-6, 6-3 (10-4), while Rajendra Goyal made the light work of Mukesh Bajaj 6-2, 6-3.Earlier, Awadhesh Kumar, principal director, Investigation Income Tax and national tennis player graced the event as the chief guest and formally inaugurated the tournament.With the participation of experienced players from different states of the country in the tournament, the matches are becoming very exciting and a lot of enthusiasm is being seen among the sports lovers.
