Jaipur: Mid-day meals for school students in Rajasthan will now have fruits once a week and also local cuisine on any one day in a week. An order dated June 23 issued by commissioner (midday meal) Vishwa Mohan Sharma states, “Food can be provided as per local demand on any one day of the week. This food should contain at least 450 calories and 12 grams of protein for classes 1 to 5, and 700 calories and 20 grams of protein for classes 6 to 8. It will be mandatory to provide fruits to students one day a week.”On Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, students from classes 1-8 will get roti, dal, and a vegetable dish. On Tuesday, students will get rice, dal, and a vegetable dish, and on Thursday, they will get khichdi made of rice, pulses, and vegetables.The commissioner has instructed all district collectors to get the mid-day meal menu and material cost (cooking conversion cost) painted on the walls of every school. The cooking conversion cost per child for the pre-primary and primary sections is Rs 6.78, while for upper primary classes it is Rs 10.17.As part of mid-day meals, students are also given milk six days a week with 15 grams of powdered milk for students from classes 1-5, which makes 150 ml of milk with 8.4 grams of sugar. For upper primary students from classes 6-8, 20 grams of powdered milk is used to make 200 ml of milk with 10.2 grams of sugar.
