Nearly 42 lakh voters deleted in Raj SIR draft poll roll, Jaipur tops list

Jaipur: The names of nearly 42 lakh voters were deleted in the draft electoral roll revised under the special intensive revision (SIR) process currently underway in Rajasthan, with Jaipur accounting for the highest number of them, the state’s chief electoral officer (CEO) Naveen Mahajan said Tuesday.Names of 41.79 lakh voters were deleted, including that of 8.75 lakh voters who had died since the last roll revision in 2002. Another 29.6 lakh voters had relocated or were absent, while the names of 3.44 lakh voters were found enrolled in multiple places, Mahajan said.“Around 11 lakh voters, whose names appear in the draft roll but have not been mapped during the current phase of SIR, will be issued notices by the sub-divisional magistrate concerned. They can add their names in the final roll after submitting necessary documents,” a statement from the CEO’s office said.“As on Dec 16, 5.04 crore voters out of a total of 5.46 crore (92.34%) have submitted their enumeration forms, reflecting overwhelming participation in the first phase of SIR,” Mahajan said.Booth-wise lists of electors whose names have not been included in the draft roll shall be displayed on notice boards in respective urban local body offices and panchayat bhavans. This is to enable the public to access the voter list and help those whose names have not been included find out the reasons why, the commission said. From Dec 16 to Jan 15, individuals and political parties will be able to file claims and objections for the inclusion of eligible voters or the deletion of ineligible names.
