Kota: The Kota special unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Sunday arrested a person acting as the middleman for a Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) probationary inspector allegedly involved in a case of forcible detention and attempted extortion. The inspector fled the scene of a trap laid by the bureau after collecting Rs 3 lakhs in bribe money, most of which consisted of dummy notes, ACB officials said. An alleged middleman in the case, identified as Akram Hussain, was nabbed from the spot. The ACB said Hussain had spoken to the complainant in this case on behalf of the inspector several times. The case began with the complainant filing a report with the ACB special unit Sunday, alleging that CNB inspector Hitesh Kumar and some men had forcibly detained his father and threatened to charge him with a false case unless Rs 3 lakhs were paid for his release.Kumar is reportedly posted in Bhawanimandi of Jhalawar district and is still in his probation phase.ACB additional superintendent of police Mukul Sharma said the bribe demand was verified through mobile phone conversations between the complainant and the inspector the same day, and a trap was laid to nab him.Accordingly, the complainant was sent to the inspector’s office with Rs 2.7 lakh in dummy currency and Rs 30,000 in genuine notes, which were duly handed over. As ACB officers arrived on the scene soon after, the inspector fled with the bribe still in his possession. Rs 20,000 of the bribe money in genuine currency notes, a mobile phone and several documents which fell out of the inspector’s pockets as he made his escape were seized, ACB officials said. The hunt for the absconding CNB inspector remains ongoing. Hussain will be produced before a magistrate on Tuesday, the officials added.
