Jaipur: The advocacy group Soochna Evam Rozgar Adhikar Abhiyan, Rajasthan, launched a statewide march from Beawar Tuesday, marking the start of a month-long campaign to demand the passage of a Rajasthan accountability law. The group is seeking legislation for enhanced accountability and better delivery of public goods and services.Titled Accountability Jan Samvad Yatra, the march was flagged off from the historic Chang Gate in Beawar and will culminate in Jaipur on Nov 26.After the flag-off, volunteers held a rally from Chang Gate to Ajmeri Gate, distributing pamphlets and raising slogans demanding the passage of the law. It was followed by a public meeting at Netaji Subhash Circle, with leading activists Aruna Roy, Nikhil Dey and Shankar Singh of the Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan (MKSS) in attendance.“The accountability law is not just about curbing corruption — it is about empowering citizens. This march reminds the government that people are the real masters,” Roy said. Dey emphasised that “state accountability was the soul of democracy”, while Singh described the movement as “a continuous struggle for people’s rights”.The month-long yatra will pass through Masuda, Sawar, Kishangarh, Sarwar, Dudu and Bagru before reaching Jaipur, where it will conclude with a state-level citizens’ convention advocating for transparency and accountability in governance.
