Jaipur: The long-standing problem of public toilets’ shortage in the Walled City finally received attention after a report was published in TOI on Dec 28 titled ‘Massive tourist rush in Walled City brings lack of public loos into focus’. Acting on the issue, the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) installed five mobile toilets at major tourist locations to cope with the rising footfall.Since Dec 30, mobile toilets have been placed at Jal Mahal, Albert Hall, Jaleb Chowk, near Jawahar Circle, and close to Amber Fort, all of which see heavy tourist traffic during the peak holiday season. These areas faced serious pressure due to the absence of adequate permanent public toilets. The newly installed mobile toilets were found to be clean and hygienic, bringing much-needed relief to both local and foreign tourists. Now, visitors do not have to struggle to find toilets while exploring the heritage markets and monuments of the Walled City, which was a major inconvenience, especially for women, children, and elderly travellers.Explaining why the mobile toilets are not being installed permanently, JMC commissioner Gaurav Saini said, “Mobile toilets are meant to be relocated according to need. We have a limited number of such units, so they are used only when footfall increases, like during the New Year period. They will also be used during the upcoming Digi Fest and the Army parade.”
