Miscreants shoot at trader in Bharatpur

Alwar: Two unidentified miscreants on a motorcycle shot and injured a trader in Mathura Gate police station area of Bharatpur Wednesday night. The victim, identified as 45-year-old Arjun Meghnani, a resident of Jawahar Nagar, was returning home on his scooter after shutting his grocery shop at Heeradas Chowraha when the assailants opened fire around 10 pm.According to police, the miscreants had been tailing Meghnani for some distance. On sensing the threat, he panicked and lost control of his scooter, which crashed into the boundary wall of a house owned by a woman identified as Rama Devi. Hearing the noise, residents rushed out. At that moment, one of the assailants fired at Meghnani, hitting him in the leg, before fleeing the spot. An empty cartridge was recovered. Neighbours rushed the injured trader to hospital, where his condition is reported to be stable. “While returning from the shop, two miscreants started following me. They tried to kill me and shot me in the leg,” Meghnani told police. Additional SP Satish Kumar said the incident was reported to police nearly an hour later. A forensic team was called in and evidence collected. “The victim has suffered a leg injury. CCTV footage in the area is being examined and the trader is also being questioned,” he said. Police suspect the attackers had been keeping track of Meghnani’s movements.
