Ministerial committee finalises Panchayat delimitation report

Jaipur: The ministerial committee on panchayat delimitation has received over 3,000 proposals for new gram panchayats and 115 for panchayat samitis as part of its delimitation exercise to reorganise gram panchayats and panchayat samitis. The final report by the panel, an official said, is expected to be submitted to the chief minister soon. The committee reviewed all proposals from panchayats and districts for reorganizing gram panchayats, panchayat samitis, and zila parishads. The state govt missed its June 4 deadline for finalising the list, causing uncertainty in the electoral timeline. Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Avinash Gehlot said the final decision will be taken by the CM. If plans proceed smoothly, elections for panchayats and urban local bodies may occur simultaneously by year-end, he said. “Even though the decision on elections will be taken by the state election commission, the govt intends to hold simultaneous polls in a timely manner,” Gehlot said.
